The "Church Lady"

That's what I think of every time I see this picture, which is why I took it~ The "Church Lady" or "Church Guy" (not to be partial). The brown, dead, bent over grass below the surface of the bright green, standing up straight grass is such a picture of how we often live our lives. We "put on" a good front. We go to church or visit with friends and say all the right things, look just the right way, while underneath we are withered, brown, and dying.

I don't want to be a "Church Lady".

I want my faith to go all the way down to the roots!

Matthew 23:26-28 (NAS)

"You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the dish, so that the outside of it may become clean also. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness. So you, too, outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

What a wonderful observation to the ordinary. You are absolutely right. Transparency, and taking off our masks is what "the church" needs. If we can not be transparent with our body of believers than with who can we? I wonder what our parking lots would look like on Sunday morning if people starting giving honest answers to the "How are you today?" token question as we are getting out of our vehicles. I wonder if the church would start to have church in the parking lot and WOW what an example to a town of hurting and dying souls.

Thanks for reminding us to let down our guard and truly let people see us.. We are all sinners.. Why do we need to pretend we are not?
