The Inspiration

This weed started it all. I had thought about a blog, but when I happened upon this weed (and so many more like it around our neighborhood and town) I knew that I wanted to begin a photo blog.
I've never seen this weed before in my life. I've never seen a weed grow this tall in my life. The trunk (yes, it has a trunk) is thick, and the entire plant is as high as my waist.
Something new and different!

Hi! I would agree (since I've seen it personaly), that i've never seen it before and that it is very, very, weird!

Good luck with the new blog!

Being native to the area for almost all my life, I have to admit, I never gave these weeds much thought, but now that you've brought it to my attention, they are rather gaudy and ugly. I think almost every kid I know (me included) fell on one of those at one time or another during childhood. (OUCH!)

That plant looks like what we call "Polk Salad." Yep, it's edible. Named after Pres. James K. Polk, and I'm not sure why. Might be a worthy Google search. For sure, the late winter/early spring weed is indigenous to Gulf Coastal Louisiana. I'm surprised y'all didn't see those in the Florida Panhandle.
